    Description

There is quite a story with this Emba mink coat! It is natural dark brown and 3/4 length. Lena Mary Calhoun Horne was married to Lennie Hayton from 1947 until 1971. For reasons not fully known, she monogramed the inside as "Mary M. Hayton" - perhaps she was concerned that a coat marked with her stage name was at greater risk for theft.
One day in the 1950s Maxene and Lena bumped into each other at their NYC optometrist. The weather suddenly changed, for which Maxene was unprepared. Lena lived nearby and thoughtfully ran home to bring Maxene this coat "so that an Andrews Sister wouldn't freeze."
Decades later I unpacked it from storage. I had forgotten the story until the monogram flooded me with memories of Maxene telling me the story. I just cannot remember how or why the coat was never returned.
